Excel Formula

Submitted by Kingsley 👑 on Wed, 09/30/2009 - 09:47

A coworker had a pretty complex spread sheet with several sheets in it.
One sheet had monthly and yearly totals going back to 2003.
She wanted a chart on a new sheet that compared this year's data with previous years.
But only up to the current months data... so August 2009 compared to Aug. 08, Aug. 07, etc
Here is what I came up with:
=INDIRECT(ADDRESS(104,MONTH(TODAY()),4,1,"damages per 1000"))
I am far from an excel expert so I'm proud of it.
Luckily the sheet with the monthly totals is arranged so that month 1 is in col 2 etc.
So my formula above pulls row 104 from col 9 (this month) which is August on the sheet.
I had to hard code the row... :-(
Now.. would the real excel experts tell me how I could make it better?
